AVSS Project

(JAM)

916-449-5174

Problem: An error is generated when you back out of running a WEEKLY MORBIDITY REPORT.

Solution: Change branch point from DONE to EXIT when backing out at the preparer's name prompt (START+2) and initialize the %BG variable if not defined at EXIT.

Received: 01/14/04

Evaluation:

TAG Recommendation:

AVSS Programmer: JAM

Outcome: Done. Installed on AVSSNet. Will be released as needed or if a county 4.13a version is created.

Suzan Ollis

Problem: Due to the modified codes for marital status in EDRS when editing a record:

NAME OF SURVIVING SPOUSE (28-30) IS NOT BLANK WHICH DOES NOT AGREE WITH DECEDENT'S MARITAL STATUS (12)

Solution: Modify the MAR^FSCDCVAL call to account for the updated marital status codes in EDRS.

Received: 01/15/04

Evaluation:

TAG Recommendation:

AVSS Programmer: PMC

Outcome: Done, update done in EDR.

04-003

C43, Santa Clara County

Claribel Balance

408-885-7394

Problem: Santa Clara reported a problem with census tracting using the new DM-Info routines. When editing an address field the new routines are changing the value of the LEN variable causing the edited address to be truncated.

Solution: At line INIT+1 in the FSADMT routine reset the LEN variable after returning from the FSCT routine.

Received: 01/22/04

Evaluation:

TAG Recommendation:

AVSS Programmer: JAM

Outcome: Done and installed at SCL on AVSSNet. Since this is only needed with the new FSCT routines there is no need to distribute this fix until they are distributed. If applied the fix will not affect current systems.

AVSS Project

(JAM)

916-449-5174

Problem: Some AVSSNet users are trying to use the 'F'ile output device but not selecting the proper directory so they can retrive their output via AVSSFX.

Solution: Modify the FSOUT routine to prepend file names with the appropriate directory path which we can determine from ^FSU("SITE","CODE") depending on the value of ^FSU("INSTALL","TYPE")="CANET".

Problem: When performing edits of 18A at the LCA level at the state AVSS is not prompting for 18B, etc as we do when editing a HCA level record.

Solution: Modify the next variable to prompt for items LCA, 18A and 21A to have the same code as in the HCA, 18A and 21A.

Received: 02/03/04

Evaluation: This AMR only affects the state version.

Problem: There is not enough space on VS-11E to print the entire text for FEMALE for Field 6 (Sex), so AVSS prints F for FEMALE, M for MALE, and U for UNKNOWN.  F and M are acceptable, but U is not.

Solution: Print UNK for UNKNOWN.  Note: this is an unfortunate case where AVSS breaks the WYSIWYG rule.

Problem: The printer was always using the previous setting even if the printer setup was set to MANUAL FEED. Thus when we ran the test page for the LFN generation from the regular lower tray, the printer retained that value.

Solution: To specify the PCL code to select which tray to use in the FSLFNGEN routine. I updated this routine in MAD in TEST and SOL in NET1.

Problem: When we produce the preliminary NCHS files we report on Type of Place of Delivery (column 21 in the layout). There is a table that maps Hospital Codes to the type.  The table is stored in ^FSL("NCHS95","TYPE",hcode)=type.  David reports that there has been an increase in the number of unclassifiable places (from 3 in year 2002 to 137 in 2003).

Solution: When new facilities are added to AVSS we must update the table with the proper recode value. There are currently 4 hospital codes without a mapping: 781, 782, 783 and 784. The codes possibilities are:

1 - Hospital; 2 - Freestanding Birth Center; 3 - Office; 4 - Residence; 5 - Other; and 9 - Not Classifiable

C42, Santa Barbara County,

Lorna Backus

Problem: DDC Field 123 (Place of Injury) only allows the pick list and codes as specified in the 1996 CDC electronic specifications. A recent Help Desk request from Lorna Backus in Santa Barbara indicates that this list is too limited for coroner use. In the opinion of Alan Oppenhiem (see below), the 2003 CDC specifications will be relaxed for this field to allow free text and there will be no requirement for AVSS to do the coding.

Solution:  As per the suggestion of Alan Oppenheim, allow free text (length=90) for DDC/CDC Field 123 and remove the internal coding associated with this field (Field I123).

OK, let's go with free text entry for EDR item 123, and let SuperMicar do the Place Of Injury coding (just as it does the Cause Of Death Coding). I will remove the 123 codes from the CDC Specs, and I will remove I123 from the EDRS file layout spreadsheet.

Problem: There were several instances where users are walking away from AVSS at the LIST TO DOH option (FSLIST3) and the program gets stuck in a loop.

A similar problem exists at PAGE+5^FSRP4 when running reports.

Solution:  Add a timeout check to FSLIST3 so that AVSS backs out properly when unattended.

Problem: For CMRs there is not enough information displayed in the person selector. Add date of birth as a filter for selecting records and during duplicate searching.

Solution: Modify the CMR/DMR NM index to include birthdate. Modify locations where duplicate checks are performed appropriately. Also add a hook into person selector code to allow display of form specific data.
