III. BIRTH-INFANT DEATH MATCHING
III.D.1. DISTRIBUTING BIRTH-DEATH COHORT FILES
- Theory and practice indicate that birth-infant death matching can be performed best at OVR where all electronic records are stored in a single database.
- OVR is now entering infant death certificates for non-participating LRDs such as San Diego.
- Thus, it is now possible to produce a complete matched birth or death “cohort” file; i.e. all infant deaths or births occurring in a given calendar year. The 1999 death cohort can be now be sent to LRDs that request it.
- The AVSS cohort file differs from traditional sequential files in that it is a complete database comprised not only of the individual birth and matched death certificates, but also the ID index and the BD cross index.
